A Comic Relief sketch which saw Rowan Atkinson playing a fictional version of the Archbishop of Canterbury is set to be investigated by Ofcom following over 2,200 complaints being made.

The sketch was removed from the iPlayer, with the BBC apologising and admitting it was "clear from feedback that [it] was problematic for a number of different reasons".

It has been suggested that a quarter of the complaints about the sketch were about religious offence, with Atkinson suggesting that praying ‘doesn’t work’.

The rest of the complaints related to language in the pre-watershed broadcast.
