Daft Punk’s latest single, Get Lucky, has shattered Spotify’s streaming record as music starved fans clamour to play the band’s first new track in eight years.

The comeback track boasted the biggest single streaming day for a single in both the UK and US, although the Swedish music service would not divulge the number of downloads received.

Spotify believes this success can be maintained for the dance duos upcoming album, Random Access Memories, which it fully expects to be the ‘biggest’ of the year.

Will Hope, of Spotify, said: “There was never any doubt that the first original single from Daft Punk in years was going to be one of the biggest debut singles of 2013," the director of label relations said.

"We expect the album to become one of the biggest, if not the biggest, on Spotify this year.”

In the UK the previous one-day streaming record had been held by the Bastille’s with their Pompeii track whilst in the US rapper Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis held the US record with Thrift Shop.
