Viewer backlash hits Britain’s Got Talent over ‘sleaze’
Viewers of ITV’s Saturday night talent contest, Britain’s Got Talent, have reacted angrily to perceived sleaze on the show following the appearance of a lap dancer and 11 year old schoolgirl singing about one night stands on the pre-watershed family show.
More than 13m people tuned in to see the season opener which included professional stripper Keri Graham who stripped down to her underwear before gyrating on a smiling Simon Cowell.
Many parents were not amused however with some branding the display as ‘totally unsuitable’.
Another act to raise eyebrows was 11-year-iold Arixsander Libantino who regaled the audience with a rendition of Jennifer Hudson’s song One Night Only, which includes the lyrics ‘You’ve got one night only, that’s all you have to spare, let’s not pretend to care, come on, big baby, come on, we only have ‘til dawn’.
Both audience and judges lavished rapturous applause on Libantino for her performance but some at home re-branded the show ‘Britain’s Got Sleaze’ for allowing the use of such adult lyrics.
Ofcom has previously criticised ITV’s X Factor for a saucy dance routine that featured semi-naked pop stars including Rihanna and Christina Aguilera.
