Twitter was reduced to just a text service for almost half an hour this afternoon, as link shorteners stopped working and links simply led through a page which claimed ‘something is technically wrong’.

Now fixed, the only light that Twitter shed on the issue was ‘Some users may have experienced an issue with links contained within Tweets. This issue has been resolved as of 7:10 am PST.’

Tweeters were only able to access links by copying them from a tweet and pasting them into their browser.

T.co handles all of the links posted to the social network, and it has been suggested that it was this service that saw the issue.
