Figures from the Reed Job Index have revealed PR and marketing jobs in the UK have grown 13.39 per cent in the last year and salaries have shown improvement in the sector.

Rise: The job news is good for those in PR and marketing

The job site reported more than 5,000 vacancies were posted on it last month, with the biggest rise in Yorkshire showing a 95 per cent increase in PR and marketing jobs since March last year. Scotland saw a rise of 87.5 per cent during the same period.

Reed managing director, Martin Warnes, said: "While some industries suffered during the recession, marketing and PR opportunities have remained fairly consistent. Businesses are quickly learning the importance of marketing and PR activity in driving sales and this has protected the industries amid the economic downturn."

While average salaries across all sectors dropped by 1.52 per cent in the last year, the average annual wage in PR in marketing countered the trend with a rise of 2.48 per cent.
