Global advertising spend increased to $557bn, 3.2 per cent higher in 2012 than during the previous year, according to Nielsen’s quarterly global AdView Pulse report.

The report claimed that only Europe saw a fall in advertising spend in 2012 for the final quarter at 5.3 per cent, and an overall annual drop of 4.2 per cent. Meanwhile Germany apparently saw a continued decline in advertising spend also for the second quarter.

The UK reported a full-year decline of 1.6 per cent while North America saw its spend grow by 3.1 per cent. Asia Pacific grow spend for the year by 2.8 per cent (a fall from the increase of 11.5 percent in 2011) while the Middle East and Africa saw growth of 14.6 per cent, with Egypt's growth recorded at 20.4 per cent.

The figures were released on the same day as the IPA released its Bellwether report on ad spend for final quarter of 2012 and WARC predicted a global ad spend increase of 5.4 per cent in 2014.
