Social gaming firm Zynga has lost its New York studio chief in the wake of a poor performance from its mobile games.

Dan Porter leaves the post just one year after the firm splashed out $180m on the acquisition of his mobile game start-up OMGPOP which failed to deliver expected revenues.

OMGPOP was best known for its hit game ‘Draw Something’, although it has been steadily losing users since Zynga’s purchase – a sequel for the title is due for release shortly.

Porter’s rocky tenure saw him forced to apologise to colleagues last month after being quoted as saying that Zynga copied other publishers games.

Sean Kelly, formerly in charge of developing the hit ‘City Ville’ title, will replace Porter in the key role as Zynga continues to reposition itself away from social media and toward the mobile market.
