Weber Shandwick Scotland has appointed Craig McGill as its digital strategist as the international group aims to heighten its digital strategy offering to clients north of the border.

McGill, who has been running his own digital media consultancy in recent years, having previously worked as a journalist and PR consultant, will be based in Glasgow and report to the agency’s managing director in Scotland Moray Macdonald.

He will also be tasked with supporting the Weber Shandwick offices in Belfast and Dublin.

Macdonald said: "Digital and social media is at the heart of all that we are doing to grow our business in Scotland. Whether client requirements are covered by our public relations, public affairs or design practices we now offer the best in digital strategy and delivery. I'm delighted that Craig has joined us as we significantly strengthen our digital capabilities and creativity.

"Craig's experience will allow us to offer top level digital strategic advice to clients in Scotland. He will be supported by our consultants throughout Scotland with the delivery of creative and engaging work right across the communications spectrum. In addition to Craig's appointment we have revised all of our consultant's job descriptions to meet the new digital requirements of clients, combined with the continued roll out of in-depth digital training for all our staff."

McGill added: “It's not about SEO, linkbait, being on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest or blogs. It's beyond that. It's even beyond ROI now. The future is about companies becoming social businesses with a positive mindset and wide range of tools to engage staff, stakeholders and customers. Weber Shandwick understand this which is why I'm delighted to be signing up with their award-winning team."

He will join a team of 30 European digital specialists operating across EMEA.
