The Mill is set to close its visual effects department to concentrate on its advertising business, which will see the departure of the TV division’s managing director and executive producer among others.

According to Televisual, 25 jobs will be lost as a result of the closure, including the departure of The Mill TV’s Will Cohen, as the result of the cutback by the BBC and Sky on commissioning visual effects heavy drama series such as Sinbad and the lack of a commission for a Doctor Who series this year.

The company had also worked on Merlin, which broadcast its final episode in 2012.

CEO Robin Shenfield explained that he hoped that jobs would be redeployed across the company where possible, as it aimed to concentrate on its advertising business in the future.

The closure is set to take place at the end of April.
