Musically minded baked bean connoisseurs can now indulge both passions simultaneously courtesy of a musical spoon that vibrates in the mouth – a far cry from the discordant bum notes normally associated with the product.

The Heinz Beanz Flavour Experience comes with its own spoon with a ting MP3 embedded within it. Inaudible outside the mouth its notes can only be picked up when sound waves hop from the spoon, through the jawbone and into the diners ear.

Food designers Bompass & Parr’s novel accoutrement coincides with the launch of five new flavours of the student staple that are more than just a mouthful; each also comes with its own handmade bowl.

Cheddar cheese flavour beans come with a yellow wax bowl modelled on a block of cheese with its spoon playing an Elgar ditty played with a cheese wire.

Garlic and herb beans meanwhile sport a bowl fashioned into a bulb of garlic with snackers treated to the sound of rustling garlic skins whilst they munch.

On the fiery chilli varities the spoon has been programmed to play a sequence of high frequency sounds intended to mimic their heat and dovetail with a spiky bowl of steel and wood.

Barbecue beans have been paired with blues music and sizzling tones married with a charred limewood bowl.

Last but not least the curry beans dovetail with a bowl that mimics a pile of spices with a percussive bhangra providing the backing track.

Sadly these bouncier beans won’t be found on the shelves of your local Tesco, aficianados will have to trek to upmarket Lomndon department store Fortnum and Mason to sample the varieties.
