Research from an industry tracker has suggested that Twitter will generate almost $1bn in revenue next year, with predictions that over half of this will come from mobile ads.

The report by eMarketer predicts that Twitter will take in $582.8m in ad revenue this year – with about 53 per cent of this coming from mobile ad sales – before this almost doubles to roughly $950m in 2014, and about $1.33bn in 2015. It is predicted that more than 60 per cent of its worldwide revenue will come from mobile ads.

eMarketer said: β€œThe upward revision comes as advertisers have shown more interest in spending money on mobile advertisements on Twitter, and as recent audience figures from multiple research sources analysed by eMarketer have suggested Twitter's reach is improving.”

It added that Twitter has benefited from the native nature of its ad products, and that the platform has benefited from the increased focus on mobile by competitors like Google and Facebook, which have both expanded their own mobile ad offerings and worked to convince advertisers to shift dollars to mobile devices.

eMarketer estimates Twitter will earn $308.9m in mobile ad revenue in 2013.
