Paddy Power resurrects Fernando Torres Benchwarmer ad outside Chelsea's Stamford Bridge stadium
Bookmaker Paddy Power has found a way to continue to run its advert referencing striker Fernando Torres after being forced to remove the billboard from outside Chelsea’s stadium by a local councillor last week.
The bookmaker has now parked an ad van in front of the space where the previous billboard, which suggested that Torres would be better working in a burger van than leading the line at Chelsea, was positioned.
A Paddy Power spokesman said: “We couldn't believe it when we found out we'd be given a bogus ad site, we felt like we'd been sold PPI. As fans loved our second job suggestions we wanted to get the message back out there. Now, with the ad van, if flipping burgers isn't Fernando's style, we're sure our driver wouldn't mind a few hours off!"
The billboard ad, part of the Benchwarmers campaign, was removed despite having survived a legal attempt by Chelsea FC to remove it, before Hammersmith and Fulham Council removed it last week.
