London creative agency Inferno has parted ways with its managing director Andy Cairns.

The unexpected decision sees Cairns depart after nearly three-and-half years in the role, and is not thought to have a new job to go to.

The agency has told The Drum that Cairns has parted way with the agency 'very amicably' having worked to the end of his contract period.

It is understood that he will not be directly replaced, being split between Inferno's general manager Paul Rumble, it's founders Tim Doust and Drew Saunders and other members of the team.

Cairns joined Inferno in December 2009 from TBWA\London where he was head of account management.
