Sources have suggested that Twitter has bought social TV analytics company Bluefin Labs, which specialises in providing solutions to brand advertisers, advertising agencies and TV networks.

The small American based company is being described as ‘Twitter’s biggest acquisition to date’, although figures have not been revealed.

Bluefin Labs has raised $20m so far, and has clients including Fox, Discovery and NBCUniversal.

It has been suggested that the acquisition could be to help Twitter gain advertisers, with Business Insider suggesting it could ‘hook advertisers by showing who needs to spend money to up their social media status, and who needs to spend money to maintain their places at the top.’
