The Evening Standard has won the licence to run the digital terrestrial local TV service in London.

Ofcom has announced the decision to appoint London Live, the name of the bid channel, to run the channel for up to 12 years, and reach around four million homes, the largest of all the local TV services being appointed.

London Live beat out proposals from YourTV London and Made In London, which Ofcom said “had not demonstrated that their proposed services would meet the needs of the area both as a whole and in respect of its constituent parts as well as the expectations of viewers in the coverage area to the same extent as ESTV, London 8 and City6.”

This is the 15th local TV licence awarded by Ofcom for the scheme, and is expected to be up and running before the end of this year.
