Australian branches of McDonald’s have announced that they are to undergo a rebranding effort after 13 of their restaurants hoisted new signage emblazoned with the name ‘Macca’s’ - according to CNN.

‘Macca’s’ has long been the unofficial standard of the global fast-food joint’s local operation, supplanting the more familiar ‘Micky D’s’ used elsewhere in the UK.

McDonald’s haven’t yet stated whether they will be following suit with a similar marketing ploy in other territories, renaming Canadian branches as ‘Macers’ for instance or updating Hong Kong outlets as ‘Mac-kee.

The new name will be in use until February 4 whereupon Macca’s will revert to McDonald’s once more.
