ITV is set to move into London Television Centre, the former home of London Weekend Television, having acquired the freehold, it has announced.

The company has agreed the £56 million deal for the 2.5 acre site from Coal Pension Properties, which will see it take a 56-year lease with no breaks.

Based on London's Southbank, the studio was built in the 70’s for LWT, and was the location for classic sit coms such as On the Buses, Please Sir! as well and long running drama Upstairs Downstairs.

ITV also plans to refurbish its offices and studio facilities in Leeds and to relocate its offices in the North to MediaCity in Salford.
