Egmont Press has announced the appointment of Total Media to handle its online and offline media planning and buying account.

With an initial budget worth £300k, Total Media will employ a mixture of outdoor, digital display, press and PPC techniques.

Mike Richards, marketing director at Egmont, said: “As well as working with exciting new talents like Michael Grant, Egmont has a fantastic heritage in children’s classics, with books including Winnie-the- Pooh, Tintin, War Horse and Thomas the Tank Engine.

“We’re delighted to be working with Total Media, who will reinvigorate the digital marketing behind these books and bring them to life for a new, digitally-savvy audience.”

The launch and growth specialist will produce and manage cross platform media planning and buying campaigns for all future book launches.

Pedro Martins, director at Total Media, said of the deal: “The UK is one of the world’s most gadget obsessed nations – our kids love their tablets and smartphones. And Ofcom’s report revealing Britain’s massively increasing online consumption supports what we’re seeing.

“Drawing on our extensive knowledge of the publishing industry and our strategic media partnerships, Total Media will produce integrated media campaigns to reach these new, but established, young audiences. As well as using more online media, we’ll continue to reach out to our target readers using other proven channels, including outdoor and press teaser campaigns.”

Work on the account starts immediately.
