After defending its pricing structure following the launch of the network in October EE has announced two new cheaper packages, following widespread criticism.

Last year EE told consumers “the business IS listening” after many voiced their concerns at the cost of using the 4G network.

From 31 January EE is to offer at £31 per month superfast 4GEE promotional price plan and a new 20GB ‘super-user’ 4GEE plan from £46 per month on SIM only for a limited time.

Designed to give consumers more choice, the special £31 promotion will be running from 31 January to 31 March offering a range of entry-level 4GEE plans. On a 24 month contract, customers will receive unlimited UK calls and texts, 500MB of mobile data, and the option to choose from a range of 4G smartphones for a one-off fee, including the HTC One SV LTE and the Nokia Lumia 820.

Customers on a 24 month plan will also be able to rake their unlimited calls and text allowance abroad to select destinations for £5 per month, EE has also announced a 12 month plan for those looking for more flexibility costing £41 per month.

The 20GB mobile data plan comes off the back of customer feedback and addresses a small number of ‘super-users’ (fewer than one per cent of all 4G customers ), who have shown a desire to use more than the current 8GB of mobile data on offer as part of EE’s largest 4G plan. Available from today (Tuesday 22 January) in EE retail stores the 12 month SIM only deal is available for £46 per month for the entire contract length if taken before 28 February.

The bundle includes unlimited UK calls and texts, customers can also add a handset by increasing the monthly tariff to £61 per month. A new 12 month SIM only plan with 8GB of data is also available for £41 per month.

Chief marketing officer at EE, Pippa Dunn, commented: “It’s our aim to offer consumers the most comprehensive range of 4GEE price plans. With these new options we’re looking to not only make 4G smartphones even more accessible, but offer even greater value for the small number of super-users out there - ensuring EE really does offer a package that’s tailored for all customers 4G needs.”

This comes on the same day as it has been announced that Phones4u has launched a mobile phone brand for 4G services called 'Life', which will piggyback on EE's network.
