An independent Peerindex survey into the 100 most influential social media users in the world of Design has placed The Drum at number eight on the list.

Top of the list is online web design and development website Smashing Magazine, followed by blogger Grave Bonney and New York-based designer Tina Roth Eisenberg.

The Drum ranks at number eight, ahead of Brand Republic at number nine and print magazine at number 10.

Design and creative organisation D&AD places at 19, just ahead of Creative Review in 20th place and Campaign at 73.

Having compiled the list, Marketer Tom Foulkes explained to The Drum: "I was interested to see how offline influence and market leadership transferred online. From the early days of a more social web it was clear that new leaders were emerging with enormously powerful influence - take Swiss Miss as the poster child of that particular phenomenon. But equally true was the fact that many of the more traditional influencers weren't adopting social media and so were getting left behind. I wanted to see how this looked - and so the design100 was born."

He added that the list presented the social influence of each Tweeter.

"From a marketers point of view I might think more carefully about the media partners i choose or if I was an event organiser the speakers I invite to give my keynotes. I think its a pretty interesting index that can really help make objective sense of what can be a completely bewildering social media landscape," Foulkes added.
