The Chalhoub Group, which specialises in the retail and distribution of luxury brands in the Middle East, has commissioned London and Singapore-based interior architects Shed to create an entire district for the world’s leading shoe brands.

The 96,000 sqft level Shoe District in Dubai Mall houses 40 handpicked designer boutiques including Prada, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, within a curated space of four multi-brand pavilions – Women’s Designer, Contemporary, Men’s and Trend. Each area is designed with a distinct individual look and feel but come together to create a one-of-a-kind shoe metropolis.

Speaking of the designs, Patrick Chalhoub, joint CEO of the Chalhoub Group, said: “Through our collaboration with Shed, we are providing a unique retail shoe experience to our customers. level Shoe District is the perfect embodiment of our ambition to lead the way through intimate consumer knowledge.”

The Women’s Designer section features vaulted brass and an eclectic mix of gold birdcages, marble and copper. Bespoke high back chairs and deep rugs aim to create a luxurious feel with a VIP lounge providing a private sanctuary within the space.

Contemporary features deliberately heavy pieces of micro architecture to anchor itself within the level, the dark space is offset by an avant garde coral ceiling dome housing the most precocious product ranges.

A Gold Souk entrance leads the way to the Trend section where marble and copper feature in upwards bursts through the floor. As a contrast to the traditional surroundings, Trend is designed to be a futuristic and fantastical environment playing host to the most sought after and ultra-cool brands. The Trend section will also be able to double up as a venue for DJ events.

Men features strong geometric shapes with a palette of crystal clear glass and grey fumed oaks. Like Women’s Designer Men also features a VIP lounge in the mould of the very best private members clubs.

Shed’s Nick Stringer, added: “These 'pavilions' collectively deliver a diverse but engaging set of environments which sit comfortably together culminating in level - a truly one-of-a-kind shoe metropolis in the heart of Dubai. Projects of this scale and importance don't come along too often and we're delighted that Chalhoub Group shared both our creative proposals and insisted on its beautiful execution.”
