It has been revealed that Instagram competitors are gaining a second boost; with German-based EyeEm beating the Facebook-owned brand for downloads last week.

EyeEm and other competitors first saw a boost following the announcement last year that Instagram was set to change its terms and conditions, but the gap slowly began to widen again.

However, in the past week, in the run up to the change in Instagram terms and conditions actually coming into effect, the competitors have seen another boost.

As blogger Dirk Singer reported, at one point EyeEm ranked number two, behind YouTube, on the US downloads chart; while Friday 18 saw EyeEm hold position 20, with Instagram rating 22.

Following the boost, Eyeem has made a statement on its website: “We thought it’s time for a statement and there’s a promise we want to give you: your photos will always remain yours and nothing will EVER be done with them without your consent.

“It’s your photos that make EyeEm what it is. Being photographers ourselves, there’s nothing we value more than our community’s rights and privacy. If a platform makes benefits, it must be through an opt-in program and revenue sharing with the creators. Period.”

The figure has fallen for today, with EyeEm ranked 54 behind Instagram’s 20 in the US.
