Guardian News & Media has today announced the appointment of Nick Hewat to the new role of commercial director.

Hewat is set to join GNM later this year from Telegraph Media Group, where he holds the role of group sales director.

Reporting to David Pemsel, GNM's chief commercial officer, Hewat will be responsible for GNM's commercial sales operations and managing key relationships with clients and agencies.

Hewat said: "With one of the world's strongest editorial brands, a successful digital first strategy, continued investment in print and a hugely engaged global audience, the Guardian has a compelling story to tell advertisers and agencies. I'm looking forward to taking that story and working with colleagues, clients and customers to deliver new revenues as well as further and faster growth."

Pemsel added: "It is a testament to the strength and scale of our brand that we are able to welcome someone of Nick's calibre to the Guardian. The wealth and breadth of experience that Nick has to offer will help bring new focus to the Guardian's revenue-generating efforts, as well as driving home the commercial value we, as the UK's leading quality news brand*, can provide our clients."

Prior to joining the Telegraph media Group, Hewat worked at Virgin Radio and Capital Radio.
