Sony to bring TV building expertise to smartphones with Xperia Z release

Sony is aiming to heighten the experience of smartphone users with the release if it's Xperia Z, offering its experience in TV development in order to do so.

The latest premium smartphone will include high definition reality display using Mobile Bravia Engine 2 to offer clarity and brightness, while the phone has been designed to offer access to entertainment services and share music, photos and videos.

The phone will include a 13 megapixel fast-capture camera, Reality Display, 4G LTE and while Sony's entertainment apps will also be accessible through the device.

These apps will include Walkman, which allows access to download music from a library of 18 million songs, a movie app and the album app which enables easy access to Facebook friends' photos, while also allowing users to browse by location.

Kuni Suzuki, president and CEO of Sony Mobile Communications, explained: “With Xperia Z, we are bringing over half a century of innovation in TV, imaging, music, film and gaming to create a superphone experience that truly stands out."

Suzuki continued: “With great specifications, Sony’smedia applications, One-touch functions and outstanding battery life, Xperia Z is well positioned for leadership in the smartphone market. By putting smartphones at the heart of our strategy, Sony is enabling people to create, enjoy and share content and experiences like never before.”

A number of near-field communications devices from Sony such as speakers, headphones and smart TVs will also be compatible, including the newly announced Bravia TV.

Sony plans to release the phone globally in the coming months.
