Sir Martin Sorrell has agreed for World Cup winning former Brazil striker Ronaldo to join WPP on a temporary basis.

The former Real Madrid striker is set to join the global marketing services company in London where he aims to learn the advertising business, having retired from football in 2011.

Ronaldo already owns a sports marketing business, called 9ine, which works with WPP.

Sir Martin Sorrell said: "We have a joint venture with Ronaldo - 9ine - which has already had great success in Brazil with clients Claro and Duracell. He'll be working with us on that in the UK. We've also been working with him on the World Cup and Olympics."

A spokesperson for 9ine said that the details of Ronaldo’s involvement while working in London were as yet unclear and that no dates had yet been set.
