Associated Press announces Samsung as first to provide sponsored tweets for its main account

The Associated Press has today announced Samsung as the first corporate body to provide sponsored tweets on the news agency’s @AP Twitter account.

Advertising for the electronics brand is set to appear twice a day for this week.

Lou Ferrara, the AP managing editor overseeing social media in the newsroom, said: "As an industry, we must be looking for new ways to develop revenues while providing good experiences for advertisers and consumers. At the same time, advertisers and audiences expect AP to do that without compromising its core mission of breaking news."

The tweets will be labelled "SPONSORED TWEETS", with the content provided by Samsung.
