The return of Celebrity Big Brother on Channel 5 last night netted the broadcaster a 15.8 per cent audience share with viewing figures peaking just short of 3.5 million.

The audience share was nearly four times up on the networks average figures for the time slot, but proved no match for BBC1’s DIY SOS: The Big Build which was the most watched show during the 9pm timeslot garnering an 18.4 per cent audience share with 4.5 million viewers.

This year’s line-up includes X Factor contestant Rylan Clarke, jokey Frankie Dettori, and former footballer Neil “Razor” Ruddock, who was drafted in as a last minute replacement for Jim Davidson following his arrest earlier in the week.

Celebrity Big Brother debuted on Channel 5 in 2011 following a move from Channel 4 after 10 years and attracted 5.1 million viewers.
