YouTube 2012 roundup: Psy, Lucy Spraggan and Nick Clegg all make Top 10 Trending Videos list

YouTube has revealed the top ten clips from 2012, with the list based on the clips that saw the biggest leaps in traffic over the year.

Psy’s Gangnam Style video topped both the list of UK trending videos 2012 and the global list of trending videos. The Kony 2012 campaign clip was named the third trending video globally and the second trending in the UK after it attracted more than 100 million views in six days.

Walk Off the Earth, which featured five musicians played a cover of Goyte’s Walk of the Earth while sharing a guitar, was the second globally trending video in the world and the third in the UK.

Skydiver Felix Baumgartner jump from the edge of space video was placed tenth in the global trending list and seventh in the UK trending list for 2012.

Other videos which made it into the global trending list were Carly Ray Jepson’s Call Me Maybe music video (fourth), the Obama v Romney epic rap battle clip (fifth) and a dramatic surprise on a quiet square (sixth). A Facebook Parenting video came ninth on the global list, showing a father's take on his relationship with his 15-year-old daughter in the age of social media.

In the UK list, the Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg’s appearance in a video which took his apology for a u-turn on tuition fees and turned it into an auto-tuned song with the chorus "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so, so sorry," came in ninth place.

In addition, Danny Boyle's Olympics film showing James Bond escorting the Queen to the opening ceremony attracted close to 1.7 million views, placing it in tenth position.
