Creative WRG Group has acquired Hong Kong events company Serious Events in a deal, reportedly valued at £1m, as it continues its international expansion.

The agency, which was named by the Recommended Agency Register as its top agency for 2012, which is headquartered in Manchester, aims to continue its international expansion plans.

Serious Events, which has a client list that includes Diageo, Chanel and Tiffany, will continue to operate under its title within the WRG Group, and will be led by general manager Cliff Zenker who will work alongside the company’s founder David Rule.

Barry Day, chief executive of WRG said that the acquisition demonstrated the company’s commitment to becoming a “leading partner to global brands” in live communications.

The acquisition will supplement the group’s growing events offer, following the buyout of Canyon in Manchester last August.

WRG’s expansion over the last year saw it rise to the top spot in the RAR Top 100 agencies for 2012.
