Cancer charity brainstrust has announced the appointment of Aberfield Communications to handle its PR.

The agency has been briefed to raise awareness of the charity’s biggest fundraising event to date.

Stephen Venables, patron of brainstrust and the first Briton to reach the summit of Everest without supplementary oxygen, will join his three fellow climbers from the US and Canada to recount their tales from the top of the mountain at the one-off event on 14 March 2013 at the Royal Geographical Society, with all funds raised from the £20 talk to go to brainstrust.

Will Jones, director of brainstrust, said: “This is a huge event for us so PR support is crucial to get people talking about it and ultimately buying tickets. With their impressive charity PR credentials, we’re delighted to have Aberfield on board.

Phil Reed, managing director at Aberfield, added: “We’ll use our expertise to encourage people to attend this fantastic event and donate towards vital research that will improve the effective treatment of brain cancer.”
