News Corp chief Rupert Murdoch took to Twitter last night to vent his dissatisfaction over the coverage of the Gaza conflict by CNN and Associated Press.

Murdoch, who is an avowed supporter of Israel, described the coverage of events in the Middle East by CNN and the AP as biased to the point of “embarrassment.”

Murdcoch also asked in another tweet : “Why is Jewish owned press so consistently anti-Israel in every crisis?” and then asked if President Obama's “friends in Egypt” could stop the shelling of Israel.

BuzzFeed political reporter Andrew Kaczynski responded, saying that he wanted whatever “Rupert Murdoch is smoking” and New Yorker political reporter Ryan Lizza tweeted simply “wow”.

Media critic Jack Shafer tweeted: "Counting down until he deletes or revises."

On the Daily Beast, Peter Beinart of Open Zion, said Murdoch's tweet was offensive to both journalists and Jews. "Give Murdoch credit," he wrote, "He’s packed a remarkable amount of idiocy and nastiness into 140 characters. It will take a lot more space than that to dig himself out."

Later Murdoch tweeted a confusing apology, ",Jewish owned press" have been sternly criticised, suggesting link to Jewish reporters. Don't see this, but apologise unreservedly."
