Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO of global marketing services group WPP, has been named as Individual of the Year at this year’s Dadi Awards, with TMP Worldwide winning the Grand Prix for its GCHQ Cyber Jobs site.

The awards, which celebrate the best of British digital marketing, named Sorrell as Individual of the Year having guided WPP through a year where it has made a number of highly influential acquisitions around the world, not least the acquisition of one of Britain’s largest digital agencies, AKQA.

He thanked the readers of The Drum and this year’s judging panel for the award, explaining the four main principles of WPP’s digital strategy and joked that he now planned on going freelance in order to cash in on the acclaim brought about by the award (see video above.)

“I could argue that digital is at the heart of everything we do,” he stated while discussing the digital business strategy.

Other winners on the night included the Chairman’s Award, presented by Phil Jones, going to Dog Digital for its work on Social Entertainment Chart Starcount, Carat being named Media Buying Agency of the Year and SapientNitro winning Digital Agency of the Year.

The awards were sponsored by; Monotype, ADTECH, Digilant, Sheridans, Green Square, Ve Interactive, Millennial Media and Pangaea TV
