Oddbins has launched a promotion with charity War Child, with a special edition of Châteauneuf-du-Pape to be sold to raise money.

For every limited edition ‘wine not war’ bottle sold, Oddbins will donate £1 to the charity, which gives money to former child soldiers, children living on the streets, children in prison and young girls at risk of rape or violence.

Ayo Akintola, managing director of Oddbins, said: “While £1 might not sound like very much to people in the UK or most of our customers, the difference it can make to the lives of children who are suffering because of armed conflicts is massive.

“When sitting down to a glass of wine in the evening, we may feel powerless to help people in distant countries, and it doesn’t always seem that these issues are as high on the political agenda as they should be. But this £1 donation proves that we all have the power to make a difference. So we are encouraging our customers to start today with a small gesture that is big on flavour and enormous in heart.”

The retailer has also unveiled a ‘wine not war’ pin badge for those who don’t drink alcohol.
