Sainsbury’s is trialling a new app to allow users to ‘scan and shop’ on their smartphones, it has been revealed.

According to Retail Week, shoppers will use a QR reader to ‘check in’ when they enter a store, scan items as they go round the shop and then checkout at a regular till without needing to scan the items.

Sainsbury’s asked 800 Nectar Card customers in the vicinity of its Tadley, Clerkenwell and Bethnal Green local stores to try out the new app.

The supermarket said: “We want to make your shopping experience even more convenient - we also want to make sure that what we do is just right for you.

“Be the first to try out, review and shape the future of Mobile Scan & Go - a new app that lets you scan your items as you shop.”
