Skype, the Microsoft-owned communications service, is to roll out access to free wifi across UK high streets for mobile phone users.

The initiative, which sees Skype partner with wireless provider Wicoms, will begin later this month, with users signing up to Skype , with businesses being charged around £10 a month to use the service.

Shadi Mahassel, access programme manager for Skype explained that the service believed that internet access should be available to everyone; “Our partnership with Wicoms enhances our ability to make Skype universally accessible and expands on our WiFi strategy, which today provides paid wi-fi access at over 1million locations worldwide.”
