Daniel Ek, the publicity shy founder of music sharing service Spotify, has admitted he was ‘about to have a breakdown’ when his putative music streaming service ran into problems ahead of its launch in 2008.

Speaking to Swedish radio Ek disclosed that the popular service nearly never made it at all following undisclosed problems with mobile phone giant Nokia.

Ek used his slot to cite Jay-Z, Diana Ross, Incubus and the Fugees as amongst his favourite performers whilst speaking of his ‘different’ childhood – in which he chose to mix with adults over other children.

The technology entrepreneur is one of Europe’s wealthiest with a personal stake in Spotify valued at £190m.
