Nokia unveils Nokia Life+ app

Smartphone maker Nokia has unveiled its Nokia Life+ service, which is claims will deliver ‘life-enhancing’ digital content to users of its Asha smartphone and feature phone.

The service, a free web application, aims to deliver information on education, health and ‘infotainment’ to Nokia phone users, which will be supported by Nokia Asha 308 and the Asha 309 smartphones, as well as other Nokia handsets.

He new app will use the new Nokia Xpress Browers, which Nokia claims can compress online data up to 90 per cent.

In reaction, Jawahar Kanjilal, Vice President & Global Head of Nokia Life, commented; "People in developing economies need better access to information on the Internet that has relevance and value to their daily lives beyond entertainment. Nokia Life+ will serve as a bridge as people graduate from a primarily text-based mobile experience towards richer, web-based usage.

"Nokia Life and Nokia Life+ are now available on a huge variety of Nokia phones, including the Asha smartphone range, to plug the information gap for people with or without data plans."

Life+ will be available in English under two services; ‘Life Skills’ and ‘Live Healthy’. The former is aimed at a younger audience and aims to help develop interpersonal skills and build self confidence in order to prepare for employment, while the latter provides families with tips and trivia on matters of health and nutrition.

Local versions of the app will be made available in India, China and Indonesia too.
