B&Q’s marketing director Katherine Paterson is to leave the DIY retailer.

Paterson departs amidst a pitching process for its £40m advertising account and its £33m media planning and buying account.

B&Q chief executive Martyn Phillips commented: “Over the last two years Katherine has helped lead the marketing team to a position of strength and has worked with the whole team during the last eight months to help develop the right structure to help us live Better Homes, Better Lives, create the Helpful Home Improvement Company and deliver the promises laid out in the manifesto.”

The reason cited for Paterson's departure was 'personal reasons'.

A successor is now being sought, and is likely to take a place on the board of B&Q too with brand director David Hutchinson set to head up the marketing team in the meanwhile.
