Asda shoppers grab a bargain following computer glitch

Customers browsing Asda’s online store have been counting their good fortune after a glitch in the supermarket chain’s software led to food vouchers worth thousands of pounds being doled out erroneously.

Shoppers were able to profit from the stores Price Guarantee pledge which issues money-off vouchers to make up the difference if customers can find their weekly shop for cheaper at a rival supermarket.

The store also adds a generous 10% to that tally encouraging thousands of shoppers to log-in and type in details of their purchases to claim their coupons.

Unbeknownst to Asda however, but keenly jumped on by its customers, was the fact that the software was undervaluing rivals stock – with the effect that people were profiting from over-generous pay outs.

According to The Telegraph some customers have been raking in as much as £40 per shop on the back of the glitch, with one claiming to have made £8,500 over the past few weeks alone.

An Asda spokesperson told the paper: “A very small number of our savviest customers have been able to beat the system and claim a few, larger than normal, money-off vouchers”.

Sadly, the store has now capped these offers to prevent a recurrence.
