Fifty Shades of Grey tops Travelodge abandoned books list
Budget hotel chain Travelodge has issued its annual summary of the most common books to be left behind by travellers who couldn’t be bothered carting their holiday reading material home with them.
The ‘Books Left Behind’ list reveals that Fifty Shades of Grey is now almost as common a site in the chains rooms as the Gideon Bible with chambermaids lumbered with some 7,000 copies of the erotic novel since its release.
Even the titles sequels get in on the act with Fifty Shades Freed and Fifty Shades Darker, which came fourth and seventh respectively.
It’s not all sado- machocism in Travelodge’s rooms however, more hearty fare in the form of Stieg Larsson (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest and The Girl Who Played With Fire) and Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay) also featured prominently.
Travelodge recorded a total of 21,786 abandoned books in its 36,500 rooms over the past year.
