Turner Broadcasting has commissioned creative design agency, Flux to create an on-air refresh of film channel, TCM (Turner Classic Movies).

The refresh, a series of 50 idents based on iconic US movie locations, will rollout on TCM in Europe, the Middle East and Africa from 4 September to coincide with the launch of TCM HD in the UK on Sky channel 317.

Flux has previously worked with Turner Broadcasting in 2011 creating an award-winning brand spot themed on a selection of the channel’s contemporary film titles.

Alon Ziv and Chris Mansson of Flux worked directly with TCM to develop the new on-air look based on an original in-house concept. The refresh aims to capture the spirit of great American cinema, without being film specific.

The idents were filmed across 30 locations including New York, LA, Route 66, Monument Valley and Arizona. Flux worked closely with sister production company th1ng/th2ng in NYC to organise the two week US shoot. Award-winning colourist Vince Narduzzo worked on the project which was further enhanced in Maya and After Effects at Th1ng and in-house at TCM.

Creative director of Turner Broadcasting, Simon Goodrick, comments: “We’ve been delighted with Flux’s previous work for TCM and they have again come up trumps with their work on this captivating new look for the channel.”
