Fresh from nursing its wounds over a heavy court defeat in California Samsung has gained a timely fillip in the form of a Japanese court’s ruling that its mobiles did not violate Apple patents.

The Tokyo judge ruled that Samsung’s products did not infringe on Apple’s patents, a direct contradiction of the US courts findings just a week ago.

In a statement issued after the verdict Samsung said: ”We welcome the court's decision, which confirmed our long-held position that our products do not infringe Apple's intellectual property.”

Apple declined to comment.
