Creative Edinburgh, the publicly funded organisation tasked with aiding the development of the city’s creative industries, has appointed former 1576 managing director Mark Gorman as chair.

Gorman, who was previously a board member of Creative Edinburgh, picks up the role from interim chair Ros David of Marketing Edinburgh, who took up the job after it was vacated by Navyblue’s Douglas Alexander last year.

Gorman said; “It’s a great honour to be at the forefront of a great initiative in the truly great creative city that I have been employed in for my entire career. I believe Edinburgh has the potential to punch really, really hard in the creative sector. Indeed it already does. Creative Edinburgh is finding its feet firmly now, not least thanks to a great Executive team, genuine support from the City of Edinburgh’s Economic Development team and Creative Scotland. The membership is responding enthusiastically. We are only at the beginning and we have big plans afoot for really significant profile-raising initiatives.”
