As the future of its sister title, The Dandy, looks bleak, a special edition of the DC Thomson stable’s comic, The Beano - highlighting positive lifestyle messages - is to be handed out to 370,000 school children.

According to a report in The Herald: “Dennis the Menace and Gnasher, Minnie the Minx and the Bash Street Kids will champion everything from healthy eating, time management and the virtues of saving money in the one-off comic.”

The free edition will be distributed to every primary school child by the end of this month following a tie-up between the Dundee-based publisher and Scottish Business in the Community (SBC).

The special edition celebrates the 30th anniversary of Scottish Business in the Community.

It comes after the Dundee-based publisher announced it would print its last edition of the Dandy in December after 75 years.

However, it has been stated that the comic will be revived online.

The latest edition features a cartoon of Olympic Gold medalist Jessica Ennis, described as 'Ennis the Menace'.
