Bauer Media has urged the radio industry to voice raise their concerns over the controversial Global/GMG Radio takeover.

The news comes less than two weeks after Jeremy Hunt announced he wanted to review both Ofcom and the OFT reports on the takeover, which would ultimately delay the completion of the deal for another two to three months.

Chief executive of Bauer, Paul Keenan, said the move would forever change the face of UK radio and feels the consultation isn’t getting much profile. Since the announcement, earlier in the year, Bauer has been consulting with major adverting groups, MPs and clients, asking them and the rest of the radio industry to voice their concerns too.

Keenan added: “We were very concerned when the takeover was announced. Global Radio taking over all of GMG Radio is a significant landmark and Jeremy Hunt’s decision to ask for feedback during a time when people are distracted with the Olympics and potentially on summer holidays is not good.”

Hunt asked to review the reports on 3 August, commenting: “When I receive the Ofcom report I will consider their independent advice carefully before deciding whether the matter should also be referred to the Competition Commission for a more detailed investigation of the plurality concerns.”
