Ex-channel 4 deputy editor Martin Fewell has been appointed by the Metropolitan police as head of communications, replacing former head of press Dick Fedorcio, who resigned in March.

It was announced earlier this month that Fewell would leave his role at Channel 4 after 14 years.

Bernard Hogan-Howe, The Met police commissioner, said: "I am delighted that we have selected an outstanding individual who clearly demonstrated that he possesses outstanding skills for this position. Martin will play a key role in taking forward the MPS during the challenging times ahead. I look forward to working with him."
