A leading UK oil industry media man is to head a new organisation which will market Aberdeen to leisure and business visitors.

Steve Harris, who was head of UK media relations at oil giant Shell, will take over as chief executive of destination-management organisation VisitAberdeen on August 14.

VisitAberdeen is a cross-sector partnership, with core funding from Aberdeen City Council,

Its chairman, Colin Crosby, explains: “Steve will have the responsibility for the global marketing of Aberdeen and for making a significant contribution to the economy of Aberdeen and its profile as a destination for leisure and business tourism.”

Harris said: “Aberdeen needs a proactive body to implement and deliver a marketing strategy which establishes the city’s brand to relevant potential visitors.

“I am confident that the core funding from partner organisations and contributions from the private sector both financial and in kind will allow us to meet our objectives.

“VisitAberdeen will be a high-profile and influential marketing organisation.”
