Farah Ramzan Golant was considered to be a "lifer" at the UK's largest advertising agency, AMV BBDO, having served almost 23 years there, creating campaigns for Guinness, Sainsbury's and BT.

But today, 26 July, it was unexpectedly announced that she has become the new chief executive of All3Media, the production company behind Skins, The Only Way is Essex and Midsomer Murders.

The appointment has come as a surprise as it was thought All3Media would select a candidate with programme-making experience. Steve Morrison, co-founder of All3Media, is staying with the production company group as chairman and will help Ramzan Golant with the transition from advertising to production.

Ramzan Golant joined AMV in 1990, three years after graduating from Cambridge College, was made chief executive of the £700m agency in 2004 and received a CBE in 2011 for services to advertising.

All3Media used executive search firm Egon Zehnder, which also handled the recent appointment of George Entwistle as the BBC's new director general.
