Sandown Park Racecourse has signed a sponsorship deal with nationwide bar chain The Slug and Lettuce ahead of its Music Night on 9 August starring Jessie J. The deal sees The Slug and Lettuce take naming rights to the whole day, along with race card branding for Music Nights at Sandown Park.

The bar chain will also have branding rights at Razorlight and Will Young performances at Epsom Downs Racecourse and one of Sandown Park’s popular bars will carry The Slug and Lettuce branding across four consecutive fixtures in the summer, including the Music Nights.

Sandown Park Racecourse’s commercial director, Simon Kershaw, said, “We are delighted to be entering into a partnership with such an exciting and expanding brand. The Slug and Lettuce bar chain is a great fit for Sandown Park: it’s fun, well-known and the clientele who eat at their outlets are similar to those who attend events at the racecourse. We hope this will be the first of many partnerships for our Sandown Park Music Nights.”

At last year’s two live music and racing evenings Sandown Park welcomed 26,500 visitors; this summer sees the venue running a series of racing and live music events with performances from Jessie J, Tom Jones and Alfie Boe. As well as engaging with the racecourse’s demographic The Slug and Lettuce will also gain air time on racing’s leading subscription channel, Racing UK.

Brand manager for The Slug and Lettuce, Nicola Stuart, added: “This is the first time we have sponsored a race meeting and feel it’s the perfect fit alongside Jessie J, attracting a young and dynamic crowd who enjoy a fun night out. In the build-up to the evening, we are holding race nights sponsored by Smirnoff at local Slug and Lettuce bars close to the racecourse, where punters can win tickets to see Jessie J live.”
