Lager brand Tennent's is continuing to monitor its sponsorship of Rangers Newco following the liquidation of the club’s original entity last month, it has said

Tennent's, which is shirt sponsor of both Rangers and Celtic, has said that it is continuing to monitor the situation with the new company formed by new chief executive Charles Green, who bought the core assets of the club after its liquidation in June.

A statement from Tennent's in response to The Drum’s question as to what it planned on doing should the club take its place in the fourth division of Scottish Football, after a request to join the Scottish Premier League was rejected this week, read: “Tennent's is a long standing investor in, and supporter of, Scottish football, most recently as Rangers' shirt sponsor. We continue to monitor the situation closely and have initiated discussions with the owners of The Rangers Football Club with a view to continuing Tennent's involvement with the club.”

Speculation over the sponsorship deal has been that should Tennent's continue to sponsor both clubs, it is likely to review the deal, as a result of what would considered a disparity of the sponsorship of the SPL club playing in the Champions League and a lower league team.

Tennent's ended its sponsorship deal with the Scottish Football Association last year in order to concentrate its focus on its deal with the Old Firm.
